CULTURE AS AN ACTIVE PLAYER

When major activities are to be introduced to the organisation
or parts of the organisation, like restructuring or change of strategy, which significantly influences the way the

organisation used to work, the organisational culture is a player which has to be taken into consideration. Evaluation of the company culture is a key element in any proper formulation of a change strategy.

DOES THE CULTURE WORK FOR OR AGAINST YOUR INTENTIONS ?

Once all the good thinking has been done and the direction for change is clear, the next step is implementation. There may be elements in your culture, which can accelerate the organisational development and thus form the base for the implementation. However, you may also be faced with the fact that parts of your business culture work against your intentions. You may reconsider the way ahead because the obstacles are too big - or you may wish to change parts of the culture.

CHANGE OF CULTURE

I
t is possible to change the organisational culture. Not by decree, but by installing business relevant day-to-day activities that gradually teach the organisation that it is worthwhile working differently. Over time, experiences will sink in and become part of a new, desired culture.

The Culture Evaluation Programme can describe your present culture and evaluate it against your intentions. It will help you find answers to essential questions such as: Which cultural elements will enhance or inhibit the implementation?  What is the desired culture?     • Which activities and processes may facilitate a change of culture, and how can they be integrated in day-to-day management of the business?

The identification of cultural elements will be through individual and group interviews with a representative number of stakeholders. Testing and confirmation of findings will be through group discussions and Web-based questionnaires.
